Materia Magica (MM) is a free, text-based, medieval-style MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) created by Vassago. It is an IEN (Interactive Entertainment Network), which is similar to a MUD (Multi User Dungeon), but is so much better.

MM is an immersive game set in a world called Alyria. There are 12 playable races (human, elf, half-elf, dwarf, ogre, fey, gnome, halfling, dracon, minotaur, drow, sidhe) and 14 playable classes (barbarian, bard, cavalier, druid, monk, paladin, priest, psionic, ranger, rogue, shaman, valkyrie, witch, wizard). Players are able to multiclass (or change classes, while still retaining skills and spells from previous classes) three times so that by the time a player reaches level 240, they will have the skills and spells of four classes. Players may then choose to undertake the Quest of Arbaces and become an Archon.

The only things you need to play Materia Magica are a telnet client and an Internet connection. The hostname is materiamagica.com (ip address is 66.219.44.166). You can connect via ports 4000, 6666, 8000, 9000, and 23.
